In frame shapes and sizes the exercise was to look at vertical and horizontal framing and take 20 pictures photographed both ways and then to review the results. I took a range of photographs, firstly in vertical format and then in horizontal format, and these included buildings, people and objects. It is easy to stick with horizonal formats, however because I have a strong interest in portraiture, I often shoot vertically and also crop to square format and have used a vertical grip on my Nikon sometimes. Also, in producing av presentations in software such as Pictures to Exe and ProShow Gold, it is important to keep consistency of frame size through your production and so in this situation, it is important to stay with one format, usually horizontal. (But there are ways of treating vertical or square format images in this software that maintain the horizontal format). A few examples from the shoot are below, including a demonstration march captured in both formats. This exercise will make me think more about shooting both formats on some potential photograpsh in the future. The vertical images have been cropped by the thumbnail format below.
