Finally rhythm and pattern are the themes. We were asked to produce two photographs conveying rhythm and pattern. The first photograph is one of a series taken inside one of the outhouses of a manor house in the Cotswolds. I was attracted by the light coming in through the windows and they way the grid nature of the windows seemed to create a rhythm in my mind. The perspective of the angle of view I finally chose helped this effect I felt. Achieving the right exposure was important which was f8 at 1/125 at 31mm lens and ISO200.
The second photograph is one illustrating pattern which I chose from a selection of a door and doorway. I decided a closeup of the door was the best photograph to use as within the magnificent stone doorway, we were distracted from the detail I wanted to portray. The aim was to show the pattern of the studs in the door but to also include the metal face shape to break up the photograph and add a visual challenge to any potential monotony of simple showing the studs. The texture of the wood also appealed to me. The manual advised us that patterns work well when you fill the frame without any boundaries and this is what I achieved. Exposure is f7 @ 1/125 45mm lens and ISO200.
